You're about to enter a world
where every Sim is played by a real person. All these Sims
meet, chat, explore, and live in a large region known as
a city.
In fact,
every location in this city is designed by the players. You can
build a house, a club, a business, a park, or whatever
you can imagine.
Patience,
please... We're constantly updating and
improving The Sims Online. Each time you play, the game
will automatically check your
PC to see if you have the most up-to-date files.
When there are new files, they will be automatically loaded for you.
This process can take several minutes (and may be
particularly long the first time).
Choose a City Before creating
your Sim, you'll decide which city to live
in.
Each city can have thousands of residents.
Your Sim will live his or her entire life in the city you
choose.
Cities can develop into unique
communities, depending on the Sims who live there. The
game rules are the same for all
cities, so you may want to pick one that sounds
interesting to you.
If you want to learn more
about the flavor of an individual city, explore the
message boards on this site.
You'll need to log in to get to
the "players only" part of the site.
If you plan
on playing with real-life friends, ask them which city
their Sims live in so you can create a Sim in that city
too.
Create a
Sim You'll be limited to three Sims, and your Sims must
all live in different
cities.
So pick an alter-ego to come out
and play. Whether you make someone saucy, sweet, or
insane... follow your personal curiosities or fantasies.
Take the chance to be someone else or to be a better
you.
Explore the
World When you arrive in the world, explore a
few places and get to know your fellow Sims. You'll
notice that people are creating much more than houses.
You'll see offices, businesses, parks, hotels, clubs,
game shows... and more.
Finding Your Way Around To get
started, activate the "Most
Visited Places" filter in the browser. It will
show you some of the coolest places to visit.
The Browser
Use the Search button on the browser to
find specific houses or Sims.
To find places off
the beaten track, zoom into a closer view of the
neighborhood by clicking on the part of the map you want
to see, then click any flashing property to
join.
Clicking any of these places will bring up
a property page, where you can hop right in or find out
more about the place and who's in it.
Be a Roommate One of the most
strategic decisions you'll make is whether to start your
own property or become a roommate in an existing
one.
Becoming a roommate has many
advantages.
-- Having roommates allows you to
have more buildable space on your property.
--
You can pool resources with your roommates and buy more stuff!
-- You
can host events better with multiple people.
--
You'll get more visitors
since your property will be online more
often!
Interacting with
Other Sims Click another Sim to pick a social
interaction. Click on yourself to pick a
gesture.
Just type and press return to
chat.
When someone wants to socialize with you,
you choose how you'll
respond... and vice versa.
Click a Sim's
picture to pull up their Sim page. From here, you can
bookmark them, send them a message, find them,
etc.
Making
Friends When you meet someone you like, make
them a friend through the social menu. If you want to
enjoy the perks of their friendship, they'll need to
make you a friend as well.
Making friends will
advance your Sim and earn you
more social moves.
Sims only have a
certain number or friends they can declare, though, so
you'll have to convince them that you're the right Sim
for them!
You can see who is friends with whom in
the friendship web. Get
there by clicking this button:
