The Sim Bio is where you can find out all
you could ever want to know about a sim - either yourself, or another sim.
Whether in a property, or reading a bio, you will see thumbnail images of other sims.
Left click on the sim thumbnails with your mouse, and up will pop the Bio Control
Panel, which will look rather like the one below - although, of course,
with a different picture of the sim in the middle.
At the top you will find the name of the sim. In this case, our subject is
a sweet little fairy by the name of Chloe Butterfly. Around the picture, you
will see a number of icons, which I will explain below; working clockwise from
the top:

|
Close Window
|
This button does exactly what it says, and takes the bio
off the screen. |
|
|
"Expand Bio"
|
Gives more details about the sim - see the separate section further
down this page for more information
|
|
|
"Where am I"
(another sim)
|
This will show you where the sim is currently located, unless
they are not in a house or have privacy on, when it will tell you that
the sim is currently not in a property. |
|
|
"Privacy Lock"
(own bio)
|
On your own bio, "Where am I" is substituted by
privacy lock. There is a small padlock icon which shows open (available)
or closed (not available). If you would like people to be able to come
to the house you are in, keep it unlocked, if you would prefer a little
peace and quiet and only allow those who you want to to be able to find
you, lock it. |
|
|
"Where is my property"
|
This will bring up the page about the property that this
sim lives in - if the sim is homeless, it will be greyed out. You
can find out more about property bios here. |
|
|
"Bookmark sim"
|
This will add the sim to your list of bookmarks,
which is covered in a separate section later in this article. |
|
|
"Private Message"
|
This enables you to send a private message - or leave
a letter if they are off-line - to another sim. Click on this to
open a box and type a message which only the recipient sim can read.
This shows as a flashing box in the top right of the recipient's
screen, which you simply click on to open. You can only have 3 private
conversations going at any one time. If someone tries to message
you when you already have 3 messages open, they will get a message
telling them that your message queue is full. |
|
|
"Friendship Web"
|
This opens the friendship web, showing your relationships
with other players. Green are friends, red are enemies, and the
bigger the link the more they are. |
When
you click the 'expand' tab, you get a whole new range of options which
give you more information about that player.
Across the top of the box are various tabs, the first one being their
personal bio, birth date, and age (displayed along the bottom of the screen).
Personal bios can be serious, funny, or just plain weird, depending on
what they want to tell you. Many people enjoy reading bios, so do try
to make it entertaining! The scroll bars on the right can be used to read
the bio if it is bigger than what the box can display; however, there
is a maximum limit to the amount of text it can contain. You can edit
yours at any time by opening this box, clicking in it, and editing. When
you have finished, simply exit out of it to save your changes. If you
reach the limit of text, the game will make a dull 'thud' sound to notify
you..
This tab has two options, skills and employment.

On the first tab - skills - you can see what skill points the sim has; on your
own bio your locked points are shown in red, unlocked in blue. On another person's
bio, they only show in blue. You can read more about skills here.
On the second tab, you can see what levels the player has achieved in any of
the "job tracks". If you do not have a job, you are shown as "unemployed",
even if you are an owner or a roomie at a house. Only job track positions are
listed here.
The next tab along the top is relationships. There are again two boxes, outgoing
and incoming relationship with that particular sim (note that this option
is greyed out on your own bio as you obviously can't have a relationship
with yourself).
Interacting with other players gives a positive or negative friendship score
with the other player. Once your lifetime rating with another player reaches
+60 you have a friend, and -60 you have an enemy. Gaining friends unlocks new
interactions, and more information can be found here
Firstly, there are two tickboxes: "Add to admit list" and "Add to ban list".
These are used in conjunction with your property admit settings to control if
you would prefer a specific list of people admitted - or banned - from your
property. However, adding someone to your ban list doesn't automatically boot
them - you have to use the "Kick Out" button.
The "Kick out visitor" button does exactly what it says
.
If you have a troublemaker on your property, use this button to remove
them. You will be asked to confirm if you want to kick that sim out. If you select
'yes', your sim will grab them by the shoulders and give them a swift kick
up the backside to remove them from your property - an entirely satisfying
interaction! If you later have a change of heart and wish to allow them
back in, simply untick the "Ban List" option on their bio, or change
the property permissions option. When the sim has been removed, you will be given the option to add
that sim to your ban and/or ignore lists - but he or she will only be unable
to enter your property if "ban list" is set in your property permissions.
"Ignore this sim" is exactly what it says - if you no longer
wish to receive messages from a particular player, this prevents them
from contacting you, and they will also not be able to use the "Where
am I" button to find you, even if your privacy lock is off.
The final button - the round one - is very important, and has several different
functions depending whose bio you are reading.
|
|
On another player's bio, this is where you click
to invite them to be your roommate. Only the property owner can do this,
and both owner and roomie-to-be must be on your property, and online.
|
|
|
If you are an owner, on your roomie's bio this button
is replaced by "Kick out roomie". Use this with caution as
there is no "undo" facility - you have to re-invite them. When
you kick out a roomie, all their possessions leave with them, and you
will need to reset the property as their objects remain on the property
but unusable once they move out, until you reset the house by closing
it. |
|
|
On your own bio, although the icon is identical,
this button is replaced with "Move out of property". If you
move out of your property, you take all your possessions with you, and
your house passes to the next senior roomie - if there are no other roomies
your house is destroyed. Use this with caution as there is no "undo"
facility. You must be on the property in order to 'move out'. |
Now that you have all the information you can need about another player,
use it to your advantage! Here are some example uses:
Want to invite your friends to a Chalkboard contest? Probably not a lot
of point asking those who have no logic skills.
Wonder if a friend wants to move in with you? Unlikely if they are already
a roomie at a busy lot.
Don't know if you can trust that trader? Check their friend web
If it's full of nasty comments, they may not be trustworthy.
They are building a house? Tell them your store's bargains.
By getting to know a little about the player you are about to interact with,
you can make the conversation a lot easier. Perhaps they live overseas; what
a great opportunity to find out about other cultures. Maybe they have similar
music tastes to you; you can tell them about the concert you went to last week
and how you got the singer's autograph and make them jealous; the possibilities
are endless!
When you have a sim bio up on the screen, on the bottom left you will
see a small box next to something that looks like an index card. Click
on this, and a small yellow X will appear in the box. This means they
are now on your bookmarks list. If you wish to remove them from your list,
simply click on it again. The X will disappear and the card will turn
grey. You can also right click their name within your bookmark list (explained
below) to either send them a message, delete the bookmark or view their
sim page.
Your bookmarks list can be found on the
bottom left corner of your screen. Click on this icon to bring up the list of
bookmarks that you have. You can have a maximum of forty sims bookmarked, and
when you reach your limit the game will tell you. You cannot add any more bookmarks
unless you remove some old ones.
At the top of the bookmark window are
two tabs - first one is your bookmarked list, and the second is your ignore list. Click
on one or the other to change the listing.
Currently online sims show up in yellow, off-line sims show up in grey. Double
click on their name to open up their bio.
You can only bookmark individual sims - you cannot bookmark a property.
It is a good idea to keep a separate note, outside of the game, why you
have bookmarked certain people, as you cannot leave 'notes' to yourself
within the game as to the reason you bookmarked them.
