Looking for a faster way to gain skill? You might want to look for a teacher. Teachers can teach you skill much faster than you can learn it in a skills house. The time it takes to teach a skill from nothing to the maximum level can be up to 8 hours, but to learn in a skills house would take 10 times that. Below is how the teaching interface works. |
|
The teacher will click the learning sim's head, then Transactions > Teach> Charisma (in this example). You will see your sim thinking strongly about what the teacher is teaching, as the teacher points at the book he or she is holding. This process takes about ten seconds. The amount of skill you gain depends on how much skill you have and how much skill your teacher has. -Chaparrita taught me charisma from 0-20.99. For the first ten points, I was gaining .1 for every teaching session. As I got closer to her skill level, the gain dropped slowly to .01. If your teacher has less than the maximum skill level, your gain will be lower. |

When you are finished learning, you will see a popup box that tells you the rate of skill gain and how much skill you have total. The teacher will see nothing. |
|
Teaching can be hard on a sim's motives. Be sure to green! If you do not, your sim will refuse to learn. |

You can only teach what you know. If you try to teach a skill you do not have, you and the teacher will see this: <------> |

Some tricks tricks and hints:
- If the teaching sim is busy (say, viewing a mystic tree), s/he can queue several teaching actions. This will make the teaching and learning go much faster.
- Have either a serenading sim or beds close by the area in which you're teaching/learning for faster greening. Also, if possible, have a mystic tree handy to view for fun and comfort. Teaching and learning is hard on fun and energy motives, but the decay of other motives is typical. Teaching at a services house will make your motives drop slower than at a skills house, plus you will green up faster.
- Be sure to tip your teacher well, especially if s/he isn't charging. Teaching takes an enormous amount of time. Make it worth it to them!
- A sim can teach if s/he has 14 skills points in logic and charisma. However, just because a sim has the skills to teach does not mean they are willing to teach. Read the profiles before you ask a sim to teach you!
