There are objects in TSO that can not be purhased through the object catalog. The only way to recieve these objects is by crafting them yourself with the proper skills and the proper components, OR by going to a store and forking over the big simoleans for an item custom crafted by somebody else. |
|
Sims can create objects through the use of a special workbench called the Thumbhammer Workbench.
- The workbench only works on Service lots.
- The workbench can be used by visitors and roommates.
When you click on the workbench, you can choose "Build..." or "Learn To Use." By selecting "Build..." you bring up a secondary menu that shows the various objects that can be built if your Sim's skills are high enough.
|
You will be warned that this will cost Simoleons and components, and can be pretty exhausting. If you confirm to the warning, the crafting process will begin. The components will be removed from your inventory at the same time that the simoleans are paid for the attempt.
If it was successful, a success dialog appears and the object will appear in your inventory. If it was not successful, a failure dialog box will appear with suggested possible causes for that failure. |
|
|
Your sim will still be charged 10% of the total cost of the item for each
failed attempt!
Crafted objects will carry the builders name on it for the lifespan of that object. In the "Buy Mode" information panel crafted objects will display Crafted by ---, so even if the object is no longer owned by you, its creator is still known. If you craft an object and you delete or recreate your Sim, your old name will still remain on that crafted object. |
Components
There are three basic component objects: Stack of Wood, Bolt of Cloth, and Box of Parts. These components combine in varying amounts to create the various objects. Components are single-tile objects that can be placed on surfaces (tables, etc.) or on the ground. |
|
Box of Wood: This object looks like, well, a box of wood. It's the basic component needed for furniture items. It can be "sold back" to Maxis (using the "recycle" button in Buy Mode) for a few Simoleons. |
|
Bolt of Cloth: This object looks like rolls of fabric or cloth. It's the basic component needed for wall hangings, and high-comfort items such as sofas and beds. It can be "sold back" to Maxis (using the "recycle" button in Buy Mode) for a few Simoleons. |
|
Box of Parts: This object looks like a small cardboard box of mechanical and electrical odds and ends. It's the basic component needed for machinery or electronic objects such as televisions and appliances. It can be "sold back" to Maxis (using the "recycle" button in Buy Mode) for a few Simoleons. |
Salvaging
Components are obtained through the destruction of existing objects. Simply click on the object to be destroyed, and chooses "Salvage." Your sim will then grab a large mallet from their back pocket and start swinging away. When the object is completely destroyed the components will go into your inventory, and a pile of trash may remain as a result of the destruction. If your Sim's inventory is full you will not be able to continue salvaging your item. |
|
If you are a roommie you must have build permissions in order to salvage anything on the lot. You can only salvage your own objects.
Depending on the wear, cost, age, and type of object involved (and the Sim's skills) your Sim will recover a varying amount of components. The exact amount of components recovered will also depend on the Sim's overall mood and Mechanical, Creative and Logic skill rating.
You will experience better results by following these general rules:
- The older and more expensive an item is the more parts you will recieve.
- The higher your Sim's mood and skill, the better.
- Trees, tables, and chairs will generally produce more wood.
- Decorative and seating items will tend to produce more cloth.
- Appliances and electronics will tend to produce more spare parts.
